Jugoslav Railways (JZ) Narrow Gauge Source Material

JZ 76cm Gauge Railways

This well-known system was extensive but is now almost completely lost, with the exception of a couple of preservation outposts and the still-working coal mine at Banovici. I have tried to put together a reference of all the material I'm aware of which might be useful in modelling these lines.

DVD

Schmalspurdampf in Bosniens Gebirge covers some archive footage of the JZ and also includes a section about the Austrian preserved Class 83 0-8-2. It's available from Stenvalls but I bought mine from a different source (can't remember where). 

Models

There are no kits available that I am aware of but the prototypes of the following commercial ready-to-run HOe products have been used at some time on the JZ system or associated industrial lines.

• Liliput Austrian U Class 0-6-2T - several were used on JZ, mostly between 1918 and 1939
• Roco HF110C 0-6-0TT - several used, mostly on private coal mining branches
• Bemo HFB 0-6-0DM - at least one in industrial use

Drawings

Drawings of JZ locomotives are reasonably easy to locate but it's far more difficult for rolling stock and very few have been published to my knowledge. A great deal of their fleet seems to have been build by Ringhoffer of Smichow (a district of Prague) but I've never come across any significant quantity of drawings from this source. I've listed the drawings featured in any of the books above.

Places to See

• Banovici coal mine - this still uses ex-JZ narrow gauge locomotives and was using steam until very recently (and may still be). I believe it's been the destination for a number of organised tours.
• Sargan 8 - the only preserved section of the JZ narrow gauge that I'm aware of.
